  • How It Works | The Fern 45

HOW IT ALL WORKS Entry to venue is FREE! Must pay for events & camping After you register you will receive your poker card that looks similar to thi s one and a wristband - if you are 18u, you will be receiving a separate card to play a non-poker game. This year we wont forget the number 11. 😂 Everyone in your vehicle must have a wristband (or stamp for 6u). You will be taking this card with you throughout the poker run. There will be 4 card stops on the course, 2 on each loop. When you stop at a loop, you will then blindly pick a poker chip out of a bag and our volunteers will punch a hole in that corresponding number. You will not know what your hand is until closing ceremonies begin. (ie: The #1 does not mean you got an Ace). When you are finished riding both loops, you will then head to the 5th card stop in the venue and receive your final hole punch. HOW IT ALL WORKS Riders will meet at the starting point and be released in groups (i.e.: Dirt Bikes, ATV’s, UTV’s, Jeeps, etc.) THIS IS NOT A RACE! Please take off in a respectful manner and be aware of your surroundings. • In order to prevent traffic jams, we will split groups to start on different loops • ...as much as we try, there will still be lines and traffic jams. COMPLETE BOTH LOOPS BEFORE ENDING THE POKER RUN (If you ride loop 2 before lunch, ride loop 1 after lunch...cardstops will close at 2:30! If you did not reach all stops, you may punch your remaining draws in the venue) • Follow the Red/White/Blue trail markers to the card stops • (2) Card stops will be on each loop, a total of (4) card stops on the course. • STOP at each card stop to draw a number, have your poker card punched • THIS IS NOT A RACE! • RETURN to registration for lunch OR start the second loop • (Closing ceremonies will start at 4:00pm*) Please do not “dilly-dally” pulling your number out. You may park on in the designated parking areas on the side of the card stops if you wish to visit and relax before continuing the course, please do not be “that guy” who parks in the middle of the road. • The 5th card stop is at the registration table • PLEASE FINISH BOTH LOOPS TO RECEIVE ALL 4 NUMBERS If somehow you missed a card stop on the loops or were unable to finish the loops due to vehicle malfunction, etc.... you may draw a number at the 5th card stop HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT POKER HAND WE HAVE? While you are out on the course, the numbers 1-52 will each be randomly assigned a playing card (#1 could the 3 of Clubs, #2 could be queen of hearts, etc.) The numbers/playing cards will be set up on stage when you get back from both loops. Use a pen to write down your cards in the blank space provided on your poker card and see Kelly or a crew member helping at the stage to see if you are one of the top poker hands. Do you have a hand that could be better if you had just one more card punch? You may purchase additional punches at the "6th Card stop" located in the venue for $20 per punch **limit of 2 additional punches THIS IS NOT A RACE! Winning hand is determined using Hoyle Official Poker Rules, Fern 45 Crew Members have final say Winner will receive $500 CASH and get to sign their name on the infamous helmet! any ties will be broken using a good ol’ 3 out of 5 card flip

  • Origin Story | The Fern 45

our ORIGIN story Ahhhh....The Fern 45! Where do I start? It started out just wanting to have a poker run in the desert with friends and family so I could share some cool trails and views with them. Shortly after...it was planned! It just happened to be Veteran's day 2015! Figured we would charge our buddies 25 bucks, winner takes all with a party afterwards, sounded great! THEN IT CLICKED! "It's Veteran's day, why don't we donate to them?" After a couple calls to Mr. Brett Palmer of the Nevada Veteran's Coalition, it was known that they could use a new laptop, we were on it! We will get you two! (Me being confident our friends could raise enough money to handle it) Thinking if we had 30 people show up it would be super fun and a party for the books. Boy, oh, boy... I was mistaken! Somewhere around 135 people showed up, including the coalition themselves! We ended up getting them that laptop and 1200 bucks! The support from friends, family, and the community of Fernley was so awesome. I, personally, will never forget the parade of rigs marching up the dirt road to participate. The sense of pride, overwhelming, to the point i almost cried. (Okay, not gonna lie, I shed a few tears) The team of my immediate family and a few friends has turned into a committed organization that's willing to donate their time, money, and huge efforts each year to keep the drive alive. I like to call it "fun"draising! This will be our 6th year raising money for veteran's and their programs. On behalf of each crew member that has ever volunteered, no matter amount of time or energy; to all the sponsors, no matter amount donated; and especially to the 95 Motorsports Complex for providing the area to stage all you "off-road crazy-heads" ! We have donated somewhere around $50,000 now!! I never thought this would be an annual event, but here we are. Lets do this, have fun, be safe always... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! -Kelly Walsh (President/Founder of the Fern 45) P.S. Catch me at the campfire and I'll fill ya in on the rest!

We earmarked funds specifically for to our Donate to Heartbeats initiative to spend by the end of December. This is a program designed to offer direct assistance to our local veterans. Through this initiative, we identify veterans in need of support and step in to provide the assistance they require. We were successfully able to donate a little over 25,000 to our local veterans! We assisted with smaller projects such as pulling weeds or cleaning up yards to paying mortgages, rents and bills. Click here to check out a list of initiatives undertaken to assist veterans in our community Upload my pictures Veteran Honor Wall We owe a debt of gratitude to all of our Veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country. We are blessed to have so many brave men and women - from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines - who have selflessly served in the military. Even if they are no longer actively serving, we are still thankful for all they have done. We are blessed to live in a country where these brave men and women have fought so that we can live in peace and freedom. We will be showing this Veteran Honor Wall at our event on a TV. Come take a look, sit back and see the men and woman that are the reason we do what we do. Without them, none of this would be possible. *Still uploading photos as of 5.17.23* View Veteran Honor Wall To play, press and hold the enter key. To stop, release the enter key.
